Over 400 Safety Citations Issued to Marion County Mine

The hearts of many Virginian's remain broken after the recent mine explosion in the area that killed nearly thirty men. In light of this tragedy there has been a recent crackdown on mines that have current safety citations. Many of the mines owned by Massey, the company that owned the mine that was the setting for the recent tragedy, it turns out have more citations than the now defunct mine.

One mine in Marion County, owned by a company known as Consul, had over 400 safety violations alone. A representative from Consul has come out to say that his company will fix any violations in their mine. They have also tried to downplay the imporance of their particular violations.

I sincerely that whatever these safety violations are resolved. We have enough tragedy in the world without ripping anymore fathers away from their children in the name of coal. If Consul has violations they need to fix them immediately as do the other numerous companies that made the list.
